Volunteer Session Helper
Elisabeth Curtis Centre Riding for the Disabled
Helpers required to help operate Riding for the Disabled (RDA) sessions in Bromham, Bedford. Opportunities to lead and side help with participants in sessions and get ponies ready with grooming and tacking up.
We offer riding sessions to people with a disability and need volunteers support to make these sessions happen. Tasks include: - Grooming and tacking up of horses ahead of sessions. - Leading horses during sessions to ensure the safety and maximum enjoyment of our participants. Here at RDA it is What You Can Do That Counts and so we aim to give all our riders the opportunity to achieve and the leaders role is to help facilitate this. - Side helping with participants in sessions. This means, where some participants need additional support, you will walk along side them in the ride and help with ensuring they get the most out of the session and most importantly enjoy their time with us. - Turning out of horses at the end of the sessions. This means clearing down after a sessions with cleaning some tack, and then putting the horses out into the fields. All training is given and no equine knowledge is needed prior to joining us. Minimum age is 14 years old. We operate a application form and safe recruiting process due to the safeguarding needs of our participants. If you would like to volunteer with us, please visit our website https://www.elisabethcurtiscentre.co.uk/volunteer/become-a-volunteer/ and complete an application form, we will then go out for references whilst you complete our e-learning from home. A new friendship group awaits, with time for a tea and a chat after sessions, making lasting friends. We deliver all training and so you'll learn new skills both in disability awareness and equine knowledge.
We ask you're able to attend for the full sessions which is approx 3.5 hours a week but if our times don't quite align to you ( maybe you have school or caring commitments) we are flexible and any support is greatly appreciated.
