RSPB Local Group Publicity & Special Events - Bedford
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)
Our friendly RSPB Bedford local group needs someone to help publicise our walks and meetings and organise special events. If you're interested in nature, a good communicator and would like to meet like-minded people, we'd love to hear from you.
RSPB local groups are our voice in the community. RSPB Bedford Local Group is an active group with an exciting and varied programme of field trips and indoor meetings. We are a friendly bunch so if you are interested in birds or wildlife more generally this is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn more about birds and nature. We need a Publicity & Special Events Organiser to help write our publicity material and organise group activities which fall outside our published programme of events. You don't need to be an expert birder but some knowledge of some of the region's main birding sites would be helpful. You will need good organisation and communication skills. If you enjoy writing creatively, meeting new people, and would relish the opportunity to join us at many of our indoor and outdoor events, this could be the role for you. If you think it might be and you are based in the Bedford area, care about nature, and have some time to spare, we would love to hear from you. What we would like you to do: Write our publicity material for our regular indoor meetings and scheduled outdoor events such as field trips. This includes press ads, posters and our annual programme of events but does NOT include our website or social media at the current time, although there may be opportunities to get involved in these in the future if you want to. Liaise with our remote Publicity Officer who currently posts ads and does our graphic design. Join us at many of our programmed events so that you are best placed to effectively promote the group. Organise events which are not on our Programme of Events. These normally involve some form of community engagement such as supporting RSPB recruiters at local events or promoting the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, but could also include activities like Birdwatching for Beginners events at local birdwatching sites. Liaise with venues/partners as appropriate and arrange the necessary volunteers to set up and man the events. Join our committee and attend 3 committee meetings per year.(These are no more than an hour long). Update the committee at each committee meeting on publicity and special event matters, liaising with the committee as appropriate.
