Mentor (Bedford)
Community Led Initiatives CIC
CLI provides a peer mentoring service to individuals recovering from addiction, homelessness or who have experienced the criminal justice system. As a volunteer mentor you will work directly with our service users to provide practical one-to-one support and constructive activities to help them build positive change in their lives, reconnect with their communities, and achieve their goals. We provide full training, ongoing support and welcome potential volunteers with similar lived experience.
Main tasks and responsibilities: 1 Produce support plans for a service user based on individual needs assessments. Help the service user identify achievable goals and help review progress against these goals that are focused on personal recovery plans and reintegrating in to the community. 2 Promote the value of lifestyle changes to service users. 3 Have links with local agencies which provide services to our service user group, to be aware of referral routes and to actively promote good partnerships and effective joint working. 4 Provide practical support to help the service user access community agencies and resources. 5 Motivate the service user to attend meetings and appointments with services, accompanying them where appropriate. 6 Close cases efficiently and positively, identifying an exit strategy with the service user that will identify agencies that can be used for ongoing support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future. 7 Attend and be committed to ongoing supervision from volunteer coordinator. 8 Implement and adhere to the policies and procedures of CLI.

We are looking for volunteers who are confident, outgoing, positive, resourceful and believe that people can make lasting changes.
A volunteer mentor can make a lasting difference in the lives of people who are vulnerable and often disadvantaged. Each person's progress is different and a mentor can become a positive role model having an impact on individuals, their families and their communities. The benefits include understanding what makes people tick, learning how to work with challenging behaviours and really making a difference in someone's life. At CLI everyone matters and volunteers receive monthly supervision, additional training and ongoing support to move into paid employment in a challenging but highly rewarding career.
